The Center for Research on Social Memory (former Social Memory Lab) is hosted by the Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw. We focus on social aspects of memory in East-Central Europe in comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives. We research a broad range of topics from the memories of wars and socio-political transformations in the region, its historical policies and memory politics, to the studies of memory communities and memory activists, heritage practices, and practitioners, as well as the history of memory studies in Poland. Our projects have been supported by H2020 programs of the European Commission, Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA), Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Poland) and many other donors.
Currently the Center’s researchers are involved in: projectechoes.eu; www.disterrmem.eu; en/counter/points; odfabrykidokorporacji.pl; and the Plurality of Memories in Global Perspective (4euplus.eu) and Cost Action Slow Memory: Visit us HERE.
