The Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University was established in 2004, being earlier part of the JU Faculty of Philology. It is part of the oldest (est. 1364) and internationally best-ranked Polish university. The JU Faculty of Polish Studies comprises 18 departments, as well as several other units, including the Centre for Polish Language and Culture in the World, Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, Centre for Translation Studies, Joseph Conrad Research Centre, Research Center for Memory Cultures, Centre for Game Studies, Centre for Avant-Garde Studies, Czeslaw Milosz Centre.
The Faculty of Polish Studies offers twenty BA and/or MA study programs, allowing to study literature, language, and culture in different combinations and for diverse specializations. Among others, students can choose programs in Comparative Studies, Literary and Cultural Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Speech, and Language Therapy, Literary Criticism, Teaching Polish as a Foreign and Second Language, Performance Studies, Literary and Cultural Translation studies, Comparative Heritage Studies (the latter being an MA in English, offered to international students). The cultural and literary/linguistic programs are regularly top-ranked as best programs offered by Polish universities.
The Faculty of Polish Studies is housed in the center of Krakow’s Old Town. Our learning community connects approximately 2000 students (BA, MA, and PhDs, 5% international), 180 Faculty teachers, and 50 support employees. It is also a hub for all international students learning Polish before commencing studies at the Jagiellonian University, or joining JU as exchange students: our Jagiellonian University’s Center for Polish Language and Culture in the World offers intensive one-semester and one-year programs and summer courses in Polish preparing for state exams and gives opportunity to learn about Poland, Polish language and culture.
