The Confederation of the Political Prisoners of Czechoslovakia (and of the Czech Republic since 1992) was formed in 1989 as the biggest association of the former political prisoners from the 1950s. After the Velvet revolution the former political prisoners fought for public recognition on several levels. They wanted to be recognized as fighters against communism and also as a part of a national-wide anti-communist movement called the Third resistance. The Czech society was deeply divided about these topics during the 1990s, which led the prisoner's association and some of its members to be very active in memory politics. When no one was interested in building a museum of the Third resistance the former prisoners founded it themselves in Příbram in 1992. They also created several another museum exhibitions during the 1990s and 2000s. Despite their advanced age, enormous efforts have been made to create historical exhibitions representing their story and promoting their historical interpretations. On the other hand, the museums had number of problems that deepened over time. The main focus of this presentation is to present several museum exhibitions and discuss their concepts, main ideas and problems, which have been experienced by those museums.
