This abstract has open access
Abstract

The ongoing unrest in Belarus that followed the presidential elections held in August 2020, is unprecedented. It has revealed a number of rather unexpected or previously misperceived aspects as to Belarusian identity and Belarusian people unity and consolidation. The paper seek to focus on Belarusian historical and cultural memory and to explore and identify the most used historic events and cultural associations by Belarusians while consolidating against the repressions and brutalities. The paper among others will also address the conflict of memories about national symbols, the official and the ones used by the consolidated opposition, reverted associations to the WWII and pre-WWII Stalinist regime, partially used by the official regime but now used by protestors.
